| LATEST NEWS ARTICLE DATED FRIDAY JUNE 2, 2006 C.V. fishermen haul in trout on Lake Shasta Recently, nine starved-for-the-outdoors Castro Valley fishermen took to interstate 5, heading for Lake Shasta. They were loaded to the gills (ha, ha) with 30 fishing poles and towing three high-performance fishing boats decked out with GPS systems, electronic downriggers, and multiple gas and electric motors. The purpose for all of this high-tech equipment was to aid in the "hooking of the Big One" Upon arrival at the Jones Valley Resort , the Bassacapaders boarded a state-of-the-art, split-level houseboat. It sleeps 16 and is fitted with a fireplace, two refrigerators and a hot tub on the upper deck. That first night, after a delicious dinner on board, the guys turned in for night filled with dreams of catching the big one. The following day, the excitement mounted as they began their two-day tournament. On day one, Scott Clare's custom Department of Fish and Research Boat, with anglers Guy Warren and Neal Long manning the decks, caught six fish: two trout, three kings and one kokanee. The Caravelle boat crew, including Dalton Jiminez and Dustin Roberts, captained by Mark Scheidt, hooked two kings and one rainbow trout. On baored the Bay Runner Boat, Captain Willie Arnold, with Dwight Roberts and Randy Branaugh, caught one kokanee and one 4-pound king. After the guys completed a second day of their tournament, it went like this: biggest fish - Randy Branaugh;most fish - Scott Clare, Guy Warren, Neal Long;most bass - Mark Scheidt, Dustin Roberts, Dalton Jiminez; no fish - Dwight Roberts. Just goes to show that even with state-of-the-art equipment and amazing teamwork, sometimes the fish win. |
